The conference’s purpose and contribution to curbing the AIDS epidemic on the continent were highlighted. The theme for ICASA 2013 is “Now more than ever: Targeting zero”. According to Dr. El-Adas, this theme is in line with the global theme of “Zero new infection, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths and she looks forward to the discussions, submissions and reports of the conference.
Commissioner Ndhlovu congratulated the local media for focusing attention on HIV/AIDS related stories and said the conference counts on their continuous support for publicity. She said South Africa is delighted to be hosting this year’s ICASA which she said promises to be one of the biggest gathering of stakeholders on HIV/AIDS research.
The Head of UNAIDS in Ghana, Mr. Haile said UNAIDS is a key partner for the ICASA 2013 and by so doing expects full participation by all stakeholders to ensure that a legible and credible platform to address HIV/AIDS on the continent is maintained. He also commended the Ghana AIDS Commission for playing a lead role on several avenues on the continent.
